Erin Brockovich
April. 4, 2002
- One essential element of success explains itself here.
- Erin is handicapped from many sides and does not seem to be favoured from one angle, except that she enjoys the minimum comforts of an American citizen.
- What strikes us about her --
- Her language and dress.
- Tenacity of purpose.
- Undaunted defiance of circumstances.
- Pushy nature.
- Unscrupulous, but is factual in the work.
- Never feels inhibited.
- Unremitting application to work, perseverance.
- Personally courageous, never despairs or breaks down.
- Unashamed of a hard bargain which is almost extortion.
- In work has interpersonal skills.
- Has general goodwill to others.
- If a work can be divided in two parts cultural and functional, she has all the functional endowments necessary for seeing great results and her cultural deficiency--rather vulgar depravity--is within limits not to spoil the results.
- Had she tried middle class manners, all her energy would have gone into it and none would have been available for a pioneering work.
- This true event illustrates that any good work, if not part of the routine will be deserted, opposed, intimidated by one and all, especially by the beneficiaries.
- After she took to investigating this case, she lost the job, a normal occurrence, but we see Life Responds to her energy in excess by bringing the lawyer to her door.
- Every piece of information she needs comes to her and every cooperation she requires comes to her only in the second half of her work, but in the first half she is met with dismal failure. Life rewards only excess energy and perseverance, not a mere idea.
- It is rewarding to see the arduous steps to be gone through from an idea to its social accomplishment.
- Her own lawyer was not hopeful.
- His partner, though he joined him was not optimistic.
- Her boyfriend opposed it and left her.
- A few clients would not listen to her.
- To her colleagues she was not the right kind.
- She received a threatening call.
- Her lawyer lost nerve more than once.
- It was a great social journey of adventure from an idea to tangible result.
- When she wins at last, the entire work is hers.
- Being one who has NO standing whatever, 40% of the $333 million goes to the lawyers. It is the reward to status. She gets 2 million having asked for one, which is less than a trickle of the whole, but more than a windfall for her. Physical work of someone of no standing will effectively work for status and will be rewarded with wages.
- This is so because the establishment is a great part of the society.
- It is also explained by a fact in the Oscar receiving ceremony where the actress who played her forgot to thank her, the original ERIN. This is according to the rule.
- The $2 Million she has earned is equal to the social status she does not have or frowns upon.
- Money is the equivalent of social status.
- Her urge essentially issues from the absence of status which she notices as lack of respect.
- If social consciousness is wealth, Mother’s consciousness is more so.
- Had she been from the upper middle class, she could not have had this urge. It may be noted for one who is in Mother’s consciousness who takes to such work, the higher consciousness will turn into success.
